New Year, New start - Royal Parks launch new local community fitness programme
In January 2007, The Royal Parks is launching a brand new twelve week community exercise programme at The Hub multi-sports pavilion in The Regent's Park.
Called Resolution Solution, the scheme is aimed at helping those adults living on the nearby Regent's Park Estate, and across Camden and Church Street wards in Westminster, who are unaccustomed to sport and physical activity but have set themselves a new year's resolution to get fit.
For twelve weeks up to 25 people will be guided and mentored through the programme which includes a free weekly personal training session, free lifestyle assessments, access to around 20 group exercise sessions per week and free access to various lifestyle seminars. After the 12 weeks, people accepted on the programme will be given free access to normal exercise programme at the Hub so helping them keep their resolution to get in shape and live a healthier lifestyle.
The project is being funded by Active England who have provided funding to help deliver activities and sessions to groups that do not traditionally participate in sport and physical activity. Beth Andrew, project manager who created the Resolution Solution project said: "We want to give those local people who often find it difficult to access good facilities and coaching expertise the opportunity to take part in a really exciting programme that will hopefully change their lives forever."
To launch the scheme, The Hub is holding an open day on January 5th 2007 between 10am and 3pm for any community groups or individuals interested in signing up for the programme. As places are limited, a selection process may be necessary to ensure that places are reserved for adults who have not participated in sport or fitness activities for at least a year, and are living in the targeted areas. Editor's notes:
The Hub The Hub multi-sports pavilion and adjacent pitches provides a focal point for sport and physical activity in central London. It provides changing rooms, social space, meeting areas and facilities for almost 150,000 people a year.
Most of the Hub is underground, letting it merge into the Grade I listed landscape and giving a 360 panoramic view over the sports pitches and across the Park. It can accommodate up to 290 people with 20 fully equipped changing rooms, including facilities for referees and those with disabilities. There are areas for education and vocational training, a community club room and space for quieter activities such as yoga.
