Royal Parks looks for the tennis stars of the future

Is your child a budding Roger Federer or Venus Williams? Is your back garden, street or playground a pretend centre court at Wimbledon? If so, then unlock their star potential by participating in the Royal Parks Community Tennis Search scheme via your school.

Royal Parks looks for the tennis stars of the futureThe scheme, which is run in association with the Middlesex Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis operator Will to Win, involves free coaching for local primary schools. Children 8 years or younger are also encouraged to come down to the new mini tennis courts in both Hyde and Regents Park to try them out for themselves for free. Accompanying adults can also play for free. Older children who attend primary schools in the area can contact Will to Win for a free tennis coaching day at their school or session at the centre. Selected children will be chosen from the participating schools to receive free coaching at the centre.

Mini tennis courts are now in place at both Hyde and Regents Park to enable those benefiting to continue their tennis at nominal cost. This, along with the new 'Royal Parks Community Tennis Search' will provide great opportunities for local kids to have fun, start the game early and be enthused with some free coaching.

Speaking about the scheme Steve Riley, Director of Will to Win Tennis said: "Will to Win Tennis has been working closely with the Royal Parks over the past 3 years to make tennis more accessible. The new courts demonstrate the Royal Parks commitment to making this happen, and the schools outreach programme will ensure we give more kids an opportunity to play the game and to develop their skills."

Mark Camley, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks said: "The Royal Parks are committed to junior tennis in London and this is a real example of partnership working for the local community. Opening up these facilities for children will enable them to enjoy active sport at low cost and may even help us encourage Wimbledon champions of the future."

Both Hyde and Regent's Parks tennis centres can now have courts for all ages, and the coaching and development programme to go with it. Social tennis for adults and juniors, teams, festivals and camps are now readily available and membership is not required as the centres are 'pay and play'.

The new mini courts are also free for all players 8 years old and under, from 3pm-6pm Monday- Friday and Saturday and Sunday until 12 noon on a walk on basis. To take part e-mail: steveriley@willtowin.co.uk
