The long list of birds to be found in the Park includes all three native woodpeckers, kestrel, tawny owl and a range of waterfowl. Kingfisher can often be seen or heard along the banks of the Longford River and the various ponds and water bodies in the Park - their brilliant blue plumage is a stunning sight.
Of particular importance are a number of ground-nesting birds like Skylark, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pipit and Stonechat. All four of these species are of conservation concern in the UK. Unwitting walkers or dogs easily disturb ground-nesting birds among the grass.
