Holding events in The Royal Parks

The Royal Parks run a varied programme of activities and events to encourage outdoor recreation, education, entertainment and public access.

If you would like to run an activity in the park, it will need to meet a number of objectives. Commercial activity is tightly controlled, but we're keen to work in partnership to develop activities and events that encourage new groups and communities into the Parks. The Royal Parks are managed to provide enjoyment of open air, outdoor recreation and public access, and events held in the Royal Parks should be consistent with these ideals.

With this in mind there are a number of event requests we will not normally consider, such as:

• Private parties/functions
• Corporate events that are not open to the public
• Markets and events solely for the purpose of selling goods/services

Events are carefully considered to provide a range of recreational opportunities, which enhance the reputation of the Royal Parks, and give the public access to affordable, noteworthy and well run events without detracting from the overall nature of the parks. We do not run any part of the Royal Parks as a showground; the availability of a particular site for an event is considered against the overall impact it would have on the Parks and park users throughout the year.

Small Events in The Royal Parks

Typical examples of small events are:

• Sponsored runs, walks etc, for a few hundred people
• A picnic
• A community sports competition
• A guided walk
• A concert on a bandstand
• One-off small performing arts events such as outdoor opera, a recital or theatre production, with an expected audience of a few hundred people.

Large scale events in the other Royal Parks

For large scale events in any other park, including:

• outdoor concerts
• festivals
• large sponsored runs and walks
• sports tournaments or festivals
• fairs, flower shows and exhibitions
• large performing arts events
• events that take place in more than one Royal Park
• Any event that would normally involve co-ordination with the local authority, emergency services or similar
